Interview with Evan Patterson of Young Widows

Way back in April I had a chance to interview Evan Patterson, leader of the post-hardcore band Young Widows. I had no idea who they were and my only frame of reference for the band was the awesome label it’s on, Temporary Residence (Pinback, Explosions in the Sky, Eluvium, etc). So I did my “research” and checked out a few of their albums and read a few other interviews. It was actually my first interview and there really should be emphasis on “spoke briefly over the phone.” There should also be emphasis on editing, but I digress…I did learn two things: Darkside of the Moon is a pop album (that part of the conversation got edited out) and that using your Boss Micro BR to record the interview works best with the reverb way up.

An Interview with the Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser

Back in September I had a chance to conduct a phone interview with the lead singer of the Walkmen, Hamilton Leithauser. We touched on such heavy hitting subjects as Robin Pecknold’s beard and Dirk Nowitzki. What resulted was probably one of the most painfully awkward interviews I’ve done (in my two interview career).
