The Quitugs

So I have been in Idaho for over a week now. I’ve officially been reporting for the Times-News in the Magic Valley since last Monday. So far I have covered a nice range of stories: a dam reopening, a high school graduation, a missing woman case, a Western Days parade, a flag re-dedication ceremony and the rain we have been getting here. There really is no average day at the office, and that’s nice. I haven’t felt like I’ve been “working” so much as I’ve been doing what is fun, rewarding and, hopefully, important.

I’ve explored my town, Burley, and the place I work at on Saturdays, Twin Falls. Doug Martsch from Built to Spill is from there (and Nikki Sixx too, I believe) and that is something I think about every time I am there, hah. I’ve also decided to make the Snake River Canyon my regular Saturday running route – a treat really. It’s beautiful seeing the Perrine Bridge and all the BASE jumpers’ parachutes popping open like fireworks. An older man recently jumped the bridge with his parachute on fire. He didn’t make it. That’s another thing I think about every time I’m there.  I’ve also recently found a nice waterfall one can get behind. I’ll post photos a little later because right now I am a lazy bastard.

But I am enjoying my time here. It’s warm but my backdrop is snow-capped mountains!
